Low dimensional materials are rapidly emerging as platforms for next generation circuits, photodetectors and battery electrodes due to their unique electronic and optical properties. Because of their inherently small size, charactering the physical, electronic and optical properties of these materials and devices can be challenging. This presentation is an overview on how Raman spectroscopy can be used to characterize various properties in low dimensional materials. It also addresses how recent advances in instrumentation used in Raman spectroscopy can overcome experimental challenges frequently encountered in these novel class of materials.
