Actin Filaments

Height images of F-actin imaged in fluid with the Cypher AFM. The periodicity of the filaments can be clearly resolved and the average measured helical pitch is approximately 37 nm, consistent with measurements obtained with electron microscopy. 2 µm, 1 µm, 340 nm scans. The actin sample was a gift from Prof. Emil Reisler's laboratory (UCLA) and prepared by Elena Grintsevich (UCLA) as described in Nanoscale, 2013, 5, 5692.
