Contact resonance stiffness map of hard disk read/write head

Contact resonance image of a hard disk read/write head with stiffness data overlaid on 3D topography. The active device region is a polished cross-section of a multi-layered structure composed of various metals and oxides. Lighter regions correspond to stiffer components, while darker regions are more compliant. Sample was imaged on a MFP-3D using the contact resonance sample actuator. Scan size is 6 µm.
