Ghost Parental Osteocarcinoma Cells in Buffer

Ghost parental Osteocarcinoma cells were imaged in contact mode in buffer using an Olympus TR400 cantilever. The above is a composite of an optical micrograph (gray) and a 3D rendering of the AFM deflection data from the cell underneath the cantilever tip (blue). While the overall shape of the cell is the same in both images, the AFM data shows stress fibers in the cytoskeleton not seen in the optical micrograph. Sample courtesy of D. Wirtz, Dept. Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Johns Hopkins University.
