AC mode height image of the (010) cleavage plane of a gypsum crystal (selenite, CaS04?2H20) after brief exposure to water. The individual steps are 0.75 nm high. The image was taken with the Cypher AFM using a cantilever amplitude of 3 nm. Scan size 1 µm.
